A 19th Century Dowry Chest most likely from the Nuristan region of Afghanistan, although possibly from the Swat Valley, made from solid Himalayan Cedar wood and intricately carved in the local style.
Construction is all wooden peg, with the only metal work being the very basic ring and nail bracket on the front.
The chest is very well made, sturdy and strong, and could be used for a variety of purpose, or simply as a decorative feature, it looks wonderful. It opens via a pull out section at the front, and is a good size Measuring: 98cm High x 78cm Long x 54cm deep.
